DYNAMIC SELECT

Definition

DYNAMIC SELECT is the Mercedes-Benz drive program switch that changes engine, transmission, steering and suspension settings - Comfort, Sport, Eco and more.

DYNAMIC SELECT lets the driver change how the car behaves with one control on the center console. Each drive program is a set of settings for several systems at once, so the car can be relaxed in traffic and sharper on a back road without any change to the hardware.

The drive programs

The exact list depends on the model and equipment. Typical programs are:

  • Comfort - the balanced default setting.
  • Eco - early upshifts and gentle throttle response to save fuel.
  • Sport and Sport+ - quicker throttle response, later upshifts and, if fitted, firmer suspension.
  • Individual - the driver combines settings for each system.
  • Some AMG models add programs such as Slippery and Race.

What a program changes

Depending on the car, a program adjusts throttle response, transmission shift points, steering effort, damping and ride height on cars with AIRMATIC or adaptive suspension, the position of the exhaust flaps on AMG and sport exhausts, and the behavior of ECO start-stop.

Why it resets

On most models DYNAMIC SELECT returns to Comfort every time the car is started, whatever program was used last. Drivers who always use Sport or Individual have to select it again on every drive. A last-mode module changes the car's settings so that it starts in the program you used last; the module itself is unplugged after the change. Which module fits depends on the car's chassis code and year.
